Dyes are soluble colorants that dissolve in a carrier medium (water or solvent) and bond to a substrate at a molecular level. Pigments are insoluble particles that are dispersed into a medium and impart color through light absorption and scattering. Dyes are generally used for textiles, leather, paper, and inks where transparency and deep fiber penetration are needed. Pigments are preferred for plastics, coatings, and inks where opacity, heat stability, and chemical resistance are required. Chemworld supplies both — see our Dyes and Pigments pages for full product ranges.
